Compassionate care · Safe space · Lasting change

You spend a lot of time
holding it together.

You deserve a space where you don’t have to.

You don’t need to arrive at therapy with the answers. You just need a place where you can begin asking the questions.

Sometimes strength looks less like feeling strong and more like learning how to survive.

Maybe you have learned to keep your emotions contained, push through difficult experiences, take care of everyone else, or tell yourself that what you are carrying “isn’t that bad.” Perhaps the coping strategies that once helped you survive are now creating problems of their own. Or maybe you simply know that something needs to change, even if you aren’t quite sure what that change looks like yet.

At Holding Space with Kay, counseling is a collaborative process built around curiosity rather than judgment. I want to understand not only what is happening in your life, but also the beliefs, circumstances, environments, experiences, and relationships that helped shape how you learned to navigate it.

“Understanding those things does not remove accountability.
It gives us somewhere meaningful to begin.”

What does it mean to hold space?

Room for the parts of your story that were hidden, ignored, minimized, or misunderstood.

Say it out loud

Being able to say, “I’m struggling,” without being reduced to your struggle.

Ask why — and what next

Exploring the why behind patterns while also asking, “What do I want to do differently?”

Sit with the uncertainty

The space between knowing something needs to change and feeling ready to change it.

Be seen as a person

Not an addiction, a diagnosis, a mistake, a trauma, or the worst thing that happened to you.

Our work together

Practical work, at your pace.

I work with adults individually and with couples, by telehealth. Depending on what you need, our sessions may move between insight and action. You set the pace — I bring structure when it helps and space when it doesn’t.

Compassion. Accountability. Change.

I don’t believe compassion means avoiding difficult conversations. And I don’t believe accountability requires shame. Therapy can make room for both.

Compassion

You are met with curiosity, not judgment — including the parts of your story you’d rather not say out loud.

Accountability

We can look honestly at the choices and patterns that brought you here, without shame doing the talking.

Change

You don’t have to rewrite the past to create something different moving forward.
